REVISION FACELIFT
Although a facelift can turn back the clock and make a face look more youthful, it cannot stop time or the aging process. Over many years, this may lead to some recurrence of the signs of facial aging that bother patients. For this reason, many patients will seek revision facelifts in order to re-achieve the improvements gained from the previous surgery. The time that elapses before a revision facelift is performed will vary depending on the anatomy of the face and the needs of the patient.
Dr. Kim commonly performs revision facelifts for many patients for whom the benefits of a previous facelift have diminished over time. Revision surgery entails the same general approach as a first time facelift, but may require a more meticulous approach. This is because the layers beneath the skin become less distinct from one another after prior surgery.
A more cautious approach is therefore taken in order to avoid injury to any of deeper structures of the face. Dr. Kim’s complication rate for revision or primary facelifts is extremely low because of his conservative, meticulous approach. Through years of performing these operations, he has never caused an injury to the facial nerve, permanent hair loss, or other serious complications.
In other situations, patients may seek a revision
facelift fairly soon after prior surgery. In these situations, they may
not be happy about the outcome of the previous procedure for one reason
or another. Under or over-pulling, irregularities, or other visible irregularities
may prompt a patient to seek early revision.
In such situations, Dr. Kim
will analyze the face and associated problems and review the previous operative
note (if available from the original surgeon) and formulate a plan for
revision facelift surgery.
